Dr. Funmi Aguocha is a systems leader and architect of behavioral health promotion and prevention, known for translating complex challenges into actionable frameworks that drive sustainable, equitable impact. Her leadership is grounded in the belief that lasting change requires intentional design—aligning vision, policy, and practice to build structures that support mental wellness, resilience, and community well-being.

As a founding leader within Massachusetts’ Office of Behavioral Health Promotion and Prevention, Dr. Aguocha has led cross-sector efforts that integrate prevention, health equity, and trauma-informed principles into statewide strategy. Her work reflects a long-term, systems-oriented approach—designing institutions and initiatives that are built not only to function, but to endure.

Funmi Aguocha, PsyD, is the Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Behavioral Health Promotion and Prevention at the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. In this role, she leads strategic initiatives to advance behavioral health and wellness statewide, with a strong emphasis on health equity and evidence-informed practices.

Dr. Aguocha is a leader in the behavioral health sector with over two decades of experience spanning both nonprofit organizations and government. Her expertise in organizational psychology and healthcare leadership drives her commitment to equity and transformative change in behavioral health systems. She is passionate about improving mental health services and implementing innovative strategies that foster positive outcomes for individuals and communities.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Aguocha served as Chief Operating Officer at The Brookline Center for Community Mental Health, where she oversaw operations, guided strategic growth, enhanced operational efficiency.  She also provided visionary leadership for school-based mental health programs and spearheaded the development of Massachusetts’ first-of-its-kind school-based tele-behavioral health initiative; expanding access to care for students across the state.

In addition to her executive leadership, Dr. Aguocha is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Organizational & Leadership Psychology Department at William James College. She teaches core doctoral courses, including Leadership Seminar and Adult Development, shaping the next generation of leaders in organizational psychology.

Dr. Aguocha earned her Psy.D. in Organizational & Leadership Psychology from William James College, a Master of Science in Applied Educational Psychology from Northeastern University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts.
